Youth Festival 2022

 Topic of The Blog:-

This bloggers a part of a Sunday reading and also the blog which we heartily loved to write. In this block I am going to give a summary of youth festival 2022. After the covid  19 and dangerous pandemic, in 2022 we are lucky to see and participant in 30th Youth Festival.

    Normally, the youth festival begins with Kala Yatra, and then the three days of youth festival melt our heart with beautiful performances. Youth Festival ended with closing ceremony with declaration of winners of various competition. So this year Kala Yatra was on 18 September 2022, and then festival on 19, 20 and 21 September 2022. The theme of this year of youth festival is Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

 Kala Yatra:-

     This year in Kala Yatra there were more than 40+ team to chear up and participating in Youth Festival. The route of the Kala Yatra is from Kaliyabid Panini Tanki  to Amphitheatre (from the second gate of University). Charges declared there decision impartially without knowing the name of particular college or department, only what they know is the code number which is given to every department and colleges. In Kala Yatra every time follow a theme prepared by them. Cal Yatra also the best three team declared as a winner.

Review of the Hindi play based on 'Hard Time '

 This blog is about a part of Thinking Activity which was given by Dilip Barad sir . In this blog I will answer Que.  Themes of 'Hard Times '. on the basis of my understanding about Hard Time -Charles Dickens.

Charles Dickens:-

◾Born in 1812 in Kent.

◾His father was a clerk .....ran into debts which landed in prisonp

◾Then he worked in a shoe polish warehouse to support family, when he was just Twelve

◾Letter returned to school but left at 15 to work as a low clerk court reporter and a political journalist before devoting himself to writing full time

◾His books where widely successful both in England and US.

◾Dickens first book pikwick papers (1837), others novels include: Olive twist (1839),Nicholas Nickleby (1839) , The Old Curiosity Shop (1840-41), Bleak house (1853),Hard Times (1853), Creat Expectations (1800) etc...

◾Edwin Drood was unfinished novel published posthumously.

Introduction to the Novel:-

◾It is a social protest novel of 19th century England.

◾Complete name is "Hard Times for these Times".

◾Originally published in a serial form of installment in magazine named "household words".

◾Published on first April 1854 ,

in London.

◾It is hist short test novel.

◾Hard times is considered as a revision of an earlier work or novel Chimes .

◾ Victorian channel and realistic novel, we can  also say it's kind of satire.

◾ Not only the working classes have a hard times in the novel but other classes as well.

◾ Novel takes in three parts after a biblical verse."sowing" ,"Reaping" & "Garnering".

◾ It satirizes English society and social economic life of its contemporary life.

◾ Novel text place in the fictional American town in Northern England called coketown partially model on Manchester 

◾ Novel suggest 19th century England touring into a factory machine.

◾ Middle class is concerned with making money

◾ The novel is best known for the state of trade unions and the explore edition of the working class by capitalist elites.

◾ Even, if it is not Dickens most popular novel, it is still an important expression of the world use he thoughts where fundamental to human existence.

Themes of the Novel:

Fact Versus Fancy 

   Dickens depics are terrifying system of education where facts and nothing but facts are prounded into the school children all day, and where memorization of information is valued over art, imagination or anything creative.

   This results in some very warped human being . Mr Thomas Gradgrind completely in this system and is a  superinted of schools and a father, he makes sure that all the children at the schools he is responsible for an especially he is own children are brought up knowing nothing but data .

     

   As a result, things go very badly for his children, Tom Gradgrind and Louisa Gradgrind.

  Since they, as children, were always treated as if they had minds and not hearts, teer adulthoods are warped,as they have no way to access their feelings or connect with each others.

   

  Tom is a sulky person and he gets involved in a crime in an effort to pay of gambling debts.Louisa is unhappy when she follows her mind , not her heart, and marries Mr. Bounderby , her father's friend.

  As a result of her unhappy marriage, she is little swept of her fit by a young gentleman, Mr James , who comes to stay with them and who seems to understand and love her. Louisa nearly comes to ruin by running of with Harq house.

  Cecilia Jupe was encouraged when she was little to dream and imagine and loud her father dearly, and therefore she is in touch with her heart and feelings, and empathy and emotional strength the other children lack. Sissy adopted by the Gradgrind when her father abandons her , ultimately is the saviour of the family in the end.

  

Industrialism

  

  Hand in hand with the glorification of data and numbers and facts in the school house is the treatment of the workers in the factorys of coketown as nothing more than machines which produce so much per day and are not thought of as having feelings or families or dreams.

  Dickens depics this situation as a result of the industrialisation of England, now that down like Coketown are focused on producing more and more dirty factories are built, more smoke pollutes the air and water, and the factory owners see their workers as part of the machine that brings them profit.

  In fact, the workers are only called" Hands", an indication of how objectified they are by the owners. Similarly, Mt Gradgrind 's children were brought up to "minds". None of them are people or "heart".

   Industrialism creates condition in which owners treat workers as machines and workers respond by unionizing to resist and fight back against the owners.

 

 In the meantime, those in parliament work for the benefit of the country but not its people. In short, industrialisation creates and environmental which people cease to treat either others or themselves as people.

  Even the unions, the groups of factory workers who fight against the industries of the factory owners, are not shown in a good light.

  

  Stephen Blackpool , a poor worker at Bounderby's factory, is rejected by his fellow workers for his refusal to join the union because of a promise made to the sweet, good woman he loves, Rachael. He is factory union than treats him as an outcast.

Marriage

 

 There are many unhappy marriages in Hard Times and none of them are resolved happily by the end.

 

Mr Gradgrind 's marriage to his feeble, complaining wife is not exactly a source of misery for either of them, but neither are there or their children happy.

 

The Gradgrind family is not loving one.

The main unhappy marriage showcased by the novel is between Louisa Gradgrind and Mr. Bounderby.

The only solution to this bad marriage, once Louisa has escaped the hands of Jem Harthouse, is for Louisa to leave at home the rest of her days. She will never be happy with another man or have the joy of children, to Dickens hints she will find join playing with Sissy's future children.

Mrs. Sparsit  was also unhappy married, which is how she came to be Mr Bounderby's companion before he marriage Louisa.

 Femininity

The best characters in Hard Times are women.

Sissy Jupe can overcome even the worst intentions of Jem Harthouse with her firmeand powerfully pure gaze.

Louisa as  disadvantaged as she is by her terrible upbringing, manages to get out of her crisis at the last minute by fleering home to her father for shelter .in contrast to her brother, Tom , who choose to commit a life- changing crime in his moment of crisis.

Through this example, the novel suggest that the kindness and compassion of the female heart can improve what an educational fact .

Still , not all the women in the novel are good. Mrs  Sparsitis a comic example of femininity gone wrong.

She can't stand being replaced by Louisa when Bounderby marriage, and what is the progression of the affair between Louisa and Jem Harthouse.

In one scene she is portrayed as a cruel, ridiculous figure. Stephen Blackpool's wife is portrayed as a highly drunken prostitute.

The Absalom & Achitophel

John Dryden:-

John Dryden was an English playwright, critic and poet of 17th century. He was born in 1631 and died in 1700. He was also appointed poet laureate in 1668 by Charles II. He was the first to be appointed and remove as well from laureate ship officially. He was dismissed by William III in 1689. He was a dominant figure during Restoration England. This is the reason that this age is also named 'the Age of Dryden'. Romanticist, Sir Walter Scott called him "Glorious John".

He established himself as the leading poet of his days. Hey witnessed the transition of English literature, commonwealth period. As the theatres re opened in 1660, he started writing plays. He is first play the Wild Gallant was not that successful. But it gave him a contract of writing three place per year by king's company. Marriage A -la-Mode(1673) is counted in his best non plays. All for love (1677-1678) was a blank verse heroic tragedy which earned him more fame. He is satiric verse Mac Flecnoe  which was also written in mock heroic manner , was a personal product in which he attacked on his successor Laureate, Thomas Shadwell. Absalom & Achitophel and The Medal are also counted among his satirical works. His Religio Laici is considered a religious poem.

 Absalom & Achitophel:-

About the Poem:-

  The poem talks about Absalom and Achitophel rebellion against his father King David. Absalom is David's favourite son and Achitophel is David's famous advisor.

  This poem revolves around Achitophel who will persuade to revolves against his father King David. Dryden writes this poem in order to portray a political satire that is a ruin a Charles II, he compare the biblical story with contemporary political events and brings out his poem . This poem is generally acknowledge as finest political satire on the English language.

  This poem is also described allegory regarding contemporary political events and a mock heroic narrative. Allegory is a piece of art. Which symbolises conveys of hidden meaning. Typically this play some moral satire using of humour sense who attack person.So Dryden he has taken a technical story and compares contemporary political events. 

  Dryden pics up a three main characters from the Biblical story and he compares with a contemporary people.

  Absalom,he is a David's favourite son he represents James Scott who is the Duke of Monmouth. This James Scott is a eligimate son of Charles II. James Scott rebelt against Charles and thrown in Dryden time so that is why Dryden has taken this character in his poem. Dryden has this comparison because just like Charles II even King David does not have a male to inherit petrone.

  He has got many mistress by which he has got many eligitimate  son,But he loves Absalom the most.

  Dryden in the poem he supports Charles II just like King David. He says that Charles has all the right to have the tron but his sun is rebelling against him to the throne to him.

 This story of king David is told in the old testament in the Bible which is in the second book of Samuel Chapter 14 -18. In the Bible story if we see David has two advisors,once is Achitophel and other one . They both give advice to Absalom to catch the throne. But the result is he is killed after getting coat by his hair in the branches of the Oak tree. This incident can be read in second Samuel Chapter 18. Achitophel in contemporary story by Dryden. He is represent in Anthony, Ashley Cooper who is Early of Shaftesbury, who is the member of parliament during Dryden's time.

Question - Answers of Frankenstein

 1. Why Victor was not able to accept his dream experiment and reason ?

    When Victor went to university, he became more interested in natural philosophy. He became more interested in science.Trying with great interest to know what this life is? What is the Cigarette of Life? Where does the moon come from, where does life come from in humans? He trying to find about life.He wanted to create a new species. collected the human body and he create a creature. He died by doing his experiments in that body. He regretted seeing his creature because it looked dirty.  The creature was looking very horrible and terrible.Victor wanted to make something beautiful but he didn't.

2. What made creature a monster ?

    Victor Frankenstein created the creature but found it ugly when it was made. And he didn't accept..When Victor saw the creature it was quite ugly. When this creature went out among the people, people did not accept him and people started to fear him and tried to kill him.That's why he used to avoid people and was rejected by the society.Even though Victor who created this creature would ignore it and run away from it because it was ugly.When this creature tried to go among people, people would run away from it and throw stones at him.He wanted to go among the people but he fell so much because people did not accept him.And this is what makes the creature a monster because the people of the society did not hunt it and it became lonely and had to go among individuals.

     Now this creature had an aversion to people and was now hat Victor. He wants to kill Victor.

3. Why society has rejected victors idea of experiment and then the result of his experiment?

    Society rejects Victor's idea because people believe that

 God should not go against the law.He gave birth to us so He gives us death. We cannot create this creature yet Victoria went against the rule and created a creature.He did the experiment but the result was not what he expected. The creature turned ugly and Victor's mistake resulted in creature ne.His idea of ​​creating a creature was not successful. So society rejects this idea of ​​experiment.

Mary Shelley 's Frankenstein

 Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a 1994 science fiction horror film directed by Kenneth Branagh who also stars as victor Frankenstein, with Robert De Niro portraying frankenstein's monster (called the creation in the film), and co- start Tkm Hulse,Helena Bonham Carter,lan Holm,John Cleese, Richard Briers and Aidan Quinn. Considered the most faithful film adaptation of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus, despite several difference and additions in plot from the novel, the film follows a medical student named victor Frankenstein who creates new life in the form of a monster composed of various corpses's body parts.

Shelley's Novel  Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus (1818) is combination of Gothic horror story of victor Frankenstein or Swiss student of natural science who creates an artificial men from piece of corpses and brings his creature to life.

Movie review:-

In the movie, the story begins with a narrator, Robert Walton, who is the captain of a ship.In this story, the store is shown from different points of view of each character.The story is sentence time in which his family is very rich and this family also adopts a couple of boys including Elizabeth who is adopted.Elizabeth and Victor become friends and fall in love with each other.

When Victor turns 17, his family sends him to university. But before he went to university, his mother died.When he was studying in the university, he was more interested in science, especially in natural philosophy, constantly trying to know what is life?

What is the secret of life? Where does life come from in human?

He thought of creating a species and decided to combine the different parts of the corpses to create a person but when it happened he didn't know it would happen so he couldn't accept it.

He made this animal but it was ugly so the people of the society cannot accept him and this ugly animal asks him to make a woman like him but Victor leaves the job unfinished and does not make it.Now this animal takes revenge with him.

In movie scenec when the monster kills Dr. frankenstein's wife Elizabeth on their honeymoon night there is extremely horrifying and frightful scenes pacted with terror and horror we can see many more such instances in the movie if we look at the actions of monster.

Shelley's most pressing and obvious message is that science and technology go to far that ending is plane and simple every person that victor Frankenstein had cared about met a tragic end, including him self. This shows that we as a being society should believe in the sancity of human life.

" Teacher's Day Celebration - 2022"

Hello , I am Bhavyata Kukadiya. on the Day of 5th September we are celebrating Teachers 'Day at Department of English MK Bhavnagar University

we are celebrate it virtually. As we all know that A Teacher Always played an important role in Every student's life.. Teachers are always like role model..As a part of this celebration I prepared one video on " Metaphysical poets."
